A Red Sea day is mostly sun, salt, and a boat that leaves on time. Pack light, but pack the few things that change the day.

On the boat

Reef-safe sunscreen, a rash guard or light long-sleeve, and a hat that stays on in wind. A dry bag keeps phones and passports safe when the deck gets wet. If you wear glasses, bring a strap.

In the water

Most trips include fins and a mask, but a well-fitting mask of your own is worth it if you snorkel often. Water shoes help on rocky island landings. Avoid cotton in the water — it stays heavy and cold after the first swim.

After the swim

  • A compact towel and a change of dry clothes.
  • Lip balm and after-sun lotion — the wind hides how much sun you took.
  • Cash for small extras, and a reusable bottle. Water is easy to underestimate.

Leave room in the bag. The best Red Sea days are not the ones with the fullest suitcase.
